SPD Officers Seize Loaded Firearm, Arrest Suspect after Shooting
Springfield, Mass. — At approximately 4:40 a.m. on Wednesday May 15th, Springfield Police Officers seized a loaded firearm and arrested 39-year-old Jose Santiago in connection with a shooting near the intersection of School and High Streets.
Around 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, Springfield Police Officers responded to the area of School and High Streets for a ShotSpotter activation. No person or property was struck.
Members of the Springfield Police Real-Time Analysis Center (R-TAC) reviewed footage and provided a description of the suspect involved in the shooting. Around 3:45 a.m., R-TAC Crime Analysts informed officers that same suspect was back at the intersection of High and School Streets.
Officers located the suspect, later identified as Santiago, with his hands towards his waistband area. Officers detained Santiago and seized an illegal firearm on his waist. The firearm was loaded with three rounds of ammunition. Officers placed Santiago under arrest.
39-year-old Jose Santiago of Springfield is charged with:
- Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
- Possession of a Firearm
- Carrying a Dangerous Weapon
