SPD Officers Seize Stolen Firearm after Hit & Run
Springfield, Mass. — On Saturday February 22nd, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Springfield Police Officers seized a loaded firearm and arrested 37-year-old Napoleon Simpson in connection with a hit and run crash.
Around 6:00 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Orchard Street for a property damage crash. A vehicle struck a fence and then backed into an unoccupied car. Officers then received information on the location of the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on the 0-100 block of Carew Street.
The driver, later identified as Simpson, did not have a license, registration or insurance. Officers then recovered an illegal firearm that was reported stolen out of Vermont and pieces of his front bumper in his trunk. Officers placed Simpson under arrest.
37-year-old Napoleon Simpson of Springfield is charged with:
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
- Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
- Uninsured Motor Vehicle
- Unregistered Motor Vehicle
- Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Crash
- Receiving Stolen Property Less than $1200
