SPD Officers Seize Three Illegal Firearms after Responding to a Gun Call at Blunt Park
Springfield, Mass — On Saturday March 15th at approximately 4:40 p.m., members of the Springfield Police C3 Unit and Officers assigned to Squad “C” seized three illegal firearms after responding to a gun call in Blunt Park.
Around 4:15 p.m., officers responded to Blunt Park on Roosevelt Avenue for a report of individuals flashing firearms and allegedly chasing someone with a gun. Officers located several suspects.
When officers frisked a suspect, later identified as John Taylor-Walters, they located a large-capacity firearm magazine that was loaded with 27 rounds of ammunition.
Officers located a fake driver’s license on Najae Nichols.
Officers recovered a firearm with a defaced serial number from a 17-year-old male.
Officers then approached a suspect, later identified as Tajour Hollins. He dropped a firearm and began to run away. After a short foot pursuit, Hollins was taken into custody. The firearm recovered had a Glock Switch attached, making the firearm fully automatic or capable of firing as a machine gun. This firearm was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.
A third illegal firearm was located inside a backpack, which was loaded and capable of holding 30 rounds of ammunition and another subject, Quinton Lockett-Simmonds was placed under arrest.
Tyrease Arzola was also arrested due to allegedly tampering with potential evidence during the investigation.
In total, three illegal firearms were recovered, and six suspects were placed under arrest.
21-year-old Tajour Hollins of Springfield is charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Loaded Large Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
- Possession of a Machine Gun
- Possession of a Loaded Machine Gun
- Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Firearm Violation with 1 prior Violent/Drug Crime
- Tampering with Evidence
- Resisting Arrest
- Disturbing the Peace
24-year-old Quinton Lockett-Simmonds of Springfield is charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Loaded Large Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
- Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Firearm Violation with 1 prior Violent/Drug Crime
- Improper Storage of a Large Capacity Firearm
- Receiving a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number
- Disturbing the Peace
26-year-old Tyrease Arzola of Springfield is charged with:
- Tampering with Evidence
- Disturbing the Peace
23-year-old Najae Nichols of Springfield is charged with:
- Forge/Misuse RMV Document
- Possession of a Counterfeit Note
18-year-old John Taylor-Walters of Springfield is charged with:
- Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device
- Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
- Disturbing the Peace
- Default Warrant
The name, booking photo and charges for the juvenile arrested will not be released due to his age.
