SPD Officers Seize Two Illegal Firearms from Two 17-Year-Olds

Springfield, Mass. — On Monday March 18th at approximately 6:30 p.m. Springfield Police Officers seized two illegal firearms and arrested a pair of 17-year-old males.

About 20 minutes earlier officers responded to the 0-100 block of Rodney Smith Circle for a suspicious activity call involving a subject with a gun.  Arriving officers approached a vehicle and located a subject matching the description of the individual with a gun.

While this 17-year-old was being detained pending an investigation, a second 17-year-old sprinted away from the car.  Officers observed that he was holding a firearm in his waistband while he ran from the car.  Officers located this suspect again on Darling Street with his hands still grabbing an item in his waistband.  After a foot pursuit, the suspect fell down on the 400 block of Goodwin Street.  Officers recovered a large-capacity firearm loaded with 8 rounds of ammunition and capable of holding 16 rounds of ammunition next to the suspect on the ground.  He was placed under arrest.

During a search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded firearm inside the car and arrested the initial 17-year-old.

Due to their ages, the juvenile’s names, charges and booking photos cannot be released.
