SPD Traffic Unit Makes Arrest in Fatal Hit & Run

Springfield, Mass. — At approximately 7:45 p.m. Monday officers responded to the area of Boston Road and Berkshire Avenue for a crash involving a pedestrian.  The driver was not on scene when police arrived.

Due to the impact from the crash, the adult female pedestrian who was struck was located on the property of a nearby cemetery.   She succumbed to her injuries on scene.

The Springfield Police Traffic Unit began investigating and developed information on a suspect.

Around 9:10 p.m. officers located the suspect on the 0-100 block Lakevilla Avenue and placed him under arrest.

This is an ongoing investigation by the Springfield Police Traffic Unit in conjunction with the Hampden District Attorney’s Office.

18-year-old Nathan Colon of Springfield is charged with:

  • Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Crash Causing Death
  • Motor Vehicle Homicide by Reckless Operation

Colon’s booking photo will be available upon request after his arraignment in Springfield District Court.
