Springfield Police Arrest Notorious Car-Break Suspect

Springfield, Mass. — On Friday October 20th at approximately 9:30 a.m. members of the Springfield Police Auto-Theft and Ordinance Units arrested 26-year-old Darrell Cowlan in connection with car-breaks in the Forest Park neighborhood.

On October 18th, members of the Springfield Police Department responded to Beaumont Street to take a report on car-breaks in the area.  Detectives were able to review video footage and positively identified Cowlan as the suspect.

On Friday Detectives and Officers located Cowlan on the 300 block of Belmont Avenue and placed him under arrest.  Cowlan was recently released from prison after being convicted of numerous larceny, breaking and entering and fraud charges.

The Springfield Police Department would like to remind residents to lock their car doors and never leave anything valuable inside your car.  Also, if you have a Hyundai or Kia to obtain a steering wheel locking device.  Taking these steps will help prevent car-breaks and car-thefts.

26-year-old Darrell Cowlan of Springfield is charged with:

  • Breaking and Entering into a Motor Vehicle – Nighttime for a Felony (Two Counts)
  • Larceny under $1200
