Springfield Police Arrest Suspect with a Firearm who is Wanted in Connection to an Attempted Murder in Vermont
Springfield, Mass. — On Monday May 29th at approximately 5:00 p.m. Springfield Police Officers seized a loaded firearm, more than $5000 in cash, cocaine and marijuana while arrested 20-year-old Johnathan Nazario and 22-year-old Hennessy Matos after responding to a gun call on the 400 block of Franklin Street.
When Officers arrived, they located the two suspects from the gun call. Officers detained Johnathan Nazario on Columbia Terrace. Officers then located and detained Hennessy Matos near the intersection of Tracy and Liberty Streets.
During the investigation Officers located a discarded purse with more than $5200 in cash, 14 grams of cocaine, marijuana and a loaded firearm. Officers placed Nazario and Matos under arrest.
Nazario was a fugitive from justice in connection to a September 2022 attempted murder involving a firearm in Bennington, Vermont.
20-year-old Johnathan Nazario of Springfield is charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm without an FID Card
- Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number during the Commission of a Felony
- Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
- Improper Storage of a Firearm
- Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class D Drug
- Fugitive from Justice on a Court Warrant
22-year-old Hennessy Matos of Wilbraham is charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm without an FID Card
- Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number during the Commission of a Felony
- Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
- Improper Storage of a Firearm
- Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class D Drug
