Springfield Police Arrest Suspect with GPS Bracelet for Firearms Charges with another Illegal Firearm
317th Illegal Firearm Seized, Breaking Record Set in 2022
Springfield, Mass. — On Tuesday November 28th at approximately 1:30 p.m. Springfield Police Officers and members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit under the direction of Sgt. Elizer Vasquez seized a loaded large-capacity firearm and arrested two suspects on the 500 block of State Street.
A few minutes prior Detectives were in the area of School and High Streets and observed a vehicle that was not inspected. The driver then left the area and turned on State Street. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver did not immediately stop. The driver, later identified as Jennifer Oquendo, eventually stopped on the 500 block of State Street. As officers approached the car the passenger, identified as Jose Santiago-Pacheco, was adjusting and attempting to conceal a fanny pack that was strapped across his chest.
Officers located a loaded large-capacity firearm inside the fanny pack and Santiago-Pacheco was placed under arrest. Santiago-Pacheco was outfitted with a GPS ankle bracelet after Springfield Police arrested him on September 22nd and seized an illegal firearm and cocaine.
Santiago-Pacheco was out on bail at the time of Tuesday’s arrest with several firearm and drug charges pending in Springfield District Court.
Oquendo also did not have a driver’s license and she was placed under arrest as well.
This is the 317th illegal firearm the Springfield Police have recovered in 2023, which is a new annual record for seizures.
