Springfield Police Continue to Crack Down on Open Air Drug Dealing
Springfield, Mass. — On Wednesday October 30th and Thursday October 31st, members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) under the direction of Captain Brian Keenan and Sergeant Jaime Bruno arrested five suspects as part of an ongoing investigation into open air drug dealing that is plaguing businesses in the area of Worthington Street and Taylor Street.
On Wednesday and Thursday, Detectives focused on the area on the grounds and around the Friends of the Homeless shelter.
On Wednesday, Detectives conducted surveillance and would arrest 56-year-old Luis Figueroa, 35-year-old Jansy Cruz and 32-year-old Jonathan Fonseca-Tirado on the 700 block of Worthington Street. Detectives recovered approximately 55 bags of heroin, 60 suxboxone, 2.5 grams of cocaine and nearly $500 in cash.
On Thursday, Detectives again conducted surveillance on the 700 block of Worthington Street and arrested 45-year-old Abimael Roman and 37-year-old Katie O’Brien, seizing approximately 20 bags of heroin.
This is an ongoing effort to reduce open-air drug dealing in this area.
Earlier this month, Detectives made eleven arrests in connection with drug operations around Worthington Street, Taylor Street and Armory Street.
56-year-old Luis Figueroa of Springfield is charged with:

- Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
35-year-old Jansy Cruz of Springfield is charged with:
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
- Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
32-year-old Jonathan Fonseca-Tirado of Springfield is charged with:
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug (Two Counts)
- Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
45-year-old Abimael Roman of Springfield is charged with:
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug – Subsequent Offense
- Default Warrant
37-year-old Katie O’Brien of Springfield is charged with:
- Default Warrant
