Springfield Police Officers Seize Two Dirt Bikes During Anti OHV/Dirt Bike Public Safety Detail

Springfield, Mass. — Springfield Police Officers seized two dirt bikes while working an Anti-Off-Highway-Vehicle (OHV)/Dirt Bike public safety detail Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The Springfield Police Department regularly receives complaints of illegal dirt bike or OHV riding in the streets of Springfield in which the riders put the lives of others and themselves at risk.

Around 6:10 p.m. Wednesday an officer observed two dirt bikes operating on Walnut Street.  One rider, a sixteen-year-old male, attempted to pass a turning vehicle when he struck the car and was thrown from his dirt bike.  The juvenile was transported to Baystate with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.  The dirt bike was seized, and he will also receive a criminal summons.  The other rider drove away.

Around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday officers working this detail conducted a traffic stop of an unregistered dirt bike.  That bike was towed, and the rider will be cited.
