Springfield Police Officers Seize Two Loaded High-Capacity Firearms after Traffic Stop

Springfield, Mass. — At approximately 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday May 31st Springfield Police Officers seized two loaded high-capacity firearms, more than $3700 in cash, four half-packs of heroin and cocaine while arresting three suspects after a traffic stop on West and Plainfield Streets.

Around 12:55 p.m. officers observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign and conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of West and Plainfield Streets.  As this was transpiring officers received additional information that there was just a disturbance involving a gun on Osgood Street and this matched the vehicle the suspects left in.

Assisting officers arrived and the driver, later identified as Miguel Ortiz, and two passengers, Travis Parenteau & Jackeline Coello, were detained due to the gun call.

Inside the car officers recovered two loaded high-capacity firearms, $3780 in cash, approximately 200 bags of heroin and a bag of cocaine.  Officers then placed the suspects under arrest.

28-year-old Miguel Ortiz of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Loaded Large-Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
  • Carrying a Loaded Large-Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
  • Possession of a Large-Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
  • Possession of a Class A Drug
  • Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
  • Failure to Stop/Yield

38-year-old Travis Parenteau of North Troy, Vermont is charged with:

  • Carrying a Loaded Large-Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
  • Carrying a Loaded Large-Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
  • Possession of a Large-Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
  • Possession of a Class A Drug
  • Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law

36-year-old Jackeline Coello of Holyoke is charged with:

  • Carrying a Loaded Large-Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
  • Carrying a Loaded Large-Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
  • Possession of a Large-Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
  • Possession of a Class A Drug
  • Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
