Springfield Police Seize Four Illegal Firearms, Arrest Three Suspects after ShotSpotter Activation on Marble Street

Springfield, Mass. — On Tuesday August 15th, members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit under the direction of Captain Brian Keenan, Springfield Police Officers and members of the Springfield Police K-9 Unit seized four illegal firearms including a Ghost Gun, crack-cocaine, cocaine, heroin and PCP while arresting three repeat offenders in connection with a ShotSpotter activation on Marble Street.

Around 4:10 p.m. members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit were on an unrelated investigation in the area of Marble Street when there was a ShotSpotter activation.  Detectives observed multiple suspects and first detained Angel Ayala.  Detectives would find the fanny pack that Ayala was wearing with a loaded firearm inside.  The firearm was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.  Also, inside the bag was more than 400 bags of heroin and cash.

Assisting officers arrived and located Raymond Carrasquillo who was holding a firearm and at first refused to drop it.  When additional Detectives arrived Carrasquillo dropped the gun and was placed under arrest.  The firearm recovered was loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition and reported stolen out of Ohio.  Detectives also recovered cocaine, heroin and PCP from Carrasquillo.

Around 4:40 p.m. FIU Detectives located a third suspect, Desmond Rock, on Acushnet Avenue.  Inside his fanny pack Detective seized a Ghost Gun loaded with 21 rounds of ammunition and capable of holding 31 rounds.  Additional crack-cocaine was found in the fanny pack as well.

K9 Officer John Ruyffelaert and K9 Walker then located a fourth illegal firearm in the area.  The semi-automatic firearm was loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition.

In 2019 Ayala was convicted of illegal firearms charges in both Springfield and Holyoke.

In 2019 Rock was convicted of a Breaking and Entering in Chicopee District Court.

24-year-old Desmond Rock of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Loaded Large-Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
  • Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Carrying a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug

28-year-old Angel Ayala of Port Chester, NY is charged with:

  • Firearm Violation with 3 Prior Violent/Drug Crimes
  • Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Large-Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony (Two Counts)
  • Carrying a Firearm without a License – 2nd Offense
  • Carrying a Loaded Large-Capacity Firearm
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug

32-year-old Raymond Carrasquillo of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without an FID Card
  • Carrying a Firearm without an FID Card
  • Possession of a Firearm with One Prior Violent/Drug Crime
  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony (Three Counts)
  • Receiving Stolen Property Less than $1200
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug (Two Counts)
