Superintendent Clapprood, Sheriff Cocchi, Ret. Colonel Gilpin, Mayor Sarno, Big Y & the Greater Springfield Credit Union Team Up to Provide Food for those in need of a Holiday Meal
Springfield, Mass — Law enforcement leaders, the Honorable Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and two Springfield businesses will team up once again this holiday season to provide meals for dozens of families in need of a Christmas dinner.
Springfield Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood, Retired Massachusetts State Police Colonel Kerry Gilpin and Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi are continuing their tradition of helping feed those in need this holiday season. For the second year in a row Mayor Sarno will join with these law enforcement leaders as they distribute turkeys, canned goods and some special surprises Thursday December 22nd at the Springfield Police Training Facility located at 299 Page Boulevard. The drive-thru event will run from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. or while supplies last. Big Y is making a generous food donation and the Greater Springfield Credit Union is providing something special for any children that come by.
Springfield Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood said, “This holiday season along with Retired Colonel Gilpin, Sheriff Cocchi and Mayor Sarno we will continue this tradition of helping families in need in our own community. This wouldn’t be possible without the support of Springfield’s own Big Y and the Greater Springfield Credit Union. We can’t thank them enough.”
“During the holiday season, a lot of our neighbors are in need and it’s important that we come together and do what we can to help. That’s what this collaboration is all about,” said Sheriff Nick Cocchi. “Whether we are helping give people the fixings for a great holiday meal or ensuring that their kids will have presents to open on Christmas, it’s all in the spirit of what this time of year is really about.”

The drive-thru event will run from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. or while supplies last on Thursday December 22nd at the Springfield Police Training Facility located at 299 Page Boulevard. The entrance to the facility is off Guion Street. Recruits in the Springfield Police Academy will assist in the distribution of one holiday meal per vehicle.
