Three Officers Injured, Firearm Capable of Firing 50 Rounds Recovered
Springfield, Mass. — At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Thursday July 25th, Springfield Police Officers seized a large-capacity firearm and arrested repeat offender 20-year-old Davey Quinones on River Road in Agawam.
Members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) have been investigating Quinones for the possession of an illegal firearm with a 50-round drum. On Thursday while conducting surveillance on Lombard Street, Quinones observed police presence. Quinones entered a vehicle and struck several civilian vehicles to evade the police before heading onto Main Street. Quinones went over the South End Bridge into Agawam and continued on River Road. Near Danny Lane, Quinones back tracked and headed back towards Springfield. On River Road officers observed Quinones toss a gun out of his window, which was later recovered. Quinones then drove into a cruiser near the 57 Rotary. Officers took him into custody.
Three Springfield Police Officers suffered injuries due to Quinones’ actions. They are expected to be okay. River Road in Agawam was briefly closed until the damaged vehicles could be towed.
On January 8th, 2022, members of the Springfield Police FIU arrested Quinones with an illegal firearm. He was convicted and sentenced to two years of probation.
20-year-old Davey Quinones of Springfield is charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm without a License – 2nd Offense
- Carrying a Loaded Large Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
- Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device
- Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (Five Counts)
- Assault to Kill (Five Counts)
- Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Crash (Six Counts)
- Malicious Destruction of Property More than $1200 (Eight Counts)
- Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (18 Counts)
