Two Firearms, Trafficking Weight of Cocaine Seized after Joint Investigation
Springfield, Mass. — On Wednesday January 22nd at approximately 10:30 a.m., members of the FBI Western Massachusetts Safe Streets Gang Task Force, Chicopee Police Narcotics Unit and Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit seized two firearms, a trafficking amount of cocaine, heroin/fentanyl and arrested 28-year-old Johnadier Santiago at a home on the 100 block of Atherton Street.
Over the past several months, members of the FBI Western Massachusetts Gang Task Force and Chicopee Police Narcotics Unit have been conducting a drug investigation connected to a home on Atherton Street. Detectives applied for and were granted a search warrant for the home and a vehicle registered to Santiago.
While conducting surveillance on Wednesday, Detectives observed Santiago get into a vehicle and drive away from Atherton Street. Detectives conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Carew Street and Decker Place.
Detectives executed the search warrant and recovered two firearms and more than $1000 inside the home. Detectives also recovered more than 45 grams of powder and crack-cocaine inside the garage. From inside the vehicle, Detectives recovered more than $1700 in cash, approximately 4.5 grams of cocaine, 17 bags of heroin/fentanyl and 24 individually packaged bags of crack-cocaine. Santiago was placed under arrest.
The total approximate weight of the cocaine recovered is 44.2 grams, the total approximate weight of the crack-cocaine is 15.5 grams, for a total of 59.7 grams. The amount of cash seized was $2728.
28-year-old Johnadier Santiago of Springfield is charged with:
- Cocaine Trafficking 36-100 Grams
- Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony (Two Counts)
- Improper Storage of a Rifle/Shotgun near a Minor (Two Counts)
- Improper Storage of a Firearm (Two Counts)
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
