Two Juveniles Arrested, Firearm Seized after Detectives Shot At
Springfield, Mass — On Wednesday afternoon May 8th, Springfield Police Officers along with members of the Holyoke Police Department, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, Hampden District Attorney’s SAFE Unit and Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit arrested two juveniles and seized a firearm after a pursuit.
On Tuesday, Chicopee Police were involved in a pursuit with a stolen vehicle. Around 7pm, that same vehicle with two occupants was involved in a shooting on the 0-100 block of Marble Street. A car was struck as was a window at the South End Community Center.
Around 9pm, that same vehicle was spotted by residents in the area of Main Street and Lombard Street where another shooting occurred. Nothing was struck.
Around 10:55pm plain clothes Detectives located the vehicle on the 200 block of Franklin Street. As officers waited for assisting officers to arrive they were shot at by an occupant of the vehicle. No one was struck. A pursuit ensued, but the driver was able to get away.
On Wednesday afternoon, the same vehicle was spotted on I-391 in Holyoke and it was pursued into Springfield.
The vehicle was eventually stopped in the area of Bernie Avenue off of I-91 South. Springfield Police Officers and assisting agencies arrested the driver and passenger, both 17-year-old juvenile males. A firearm was also seized. The vehicle was stolen out of Vermont.
The driver was identified as the person driving during the shooting on Franklin Street and ensuing pursuit Tuesday night.
The passenger was identified as the suspect who shot at two Detectives in an unmarked cruiser on Franklin Street Tuesday night
Springfield Police arrested the passenger last May on firearms charges and he was arrested again the next month on Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon charges.
