Springfield Police Homicide Unit Investigation Leads to an Arrest of a Suspect from November 2021 Fatal Shooting
Springfield, Mass. — A Springfield Police Homicide Unit investigation under the direction of Captain Trent Duda has led to the arrest of 25-year-old Victor Oquendo on murder charges in connection with the November 2021 fatal shooting of Charleen Figueroa.
On Monday July 25th at approximately 12:55 p.m.members of the Springfield Police Warrant Apprehension Unit, Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, Massachusetts State Police VFAS Unit, Belchertown Police and Northwestern District Attorney’s Office Anti-Crime Task Force arrested Oquendo outside an apartment on the 100 block of North Main Street in Belchertown. Belchertown Police courtesy booked Oquendo before he was transported to Springfield Police Headquarters for processing.
Around 3:30 a.m. on November 28th, 2021 officers responded to the 0-100 block of West Alvord Street for a ShotSpotter Activation. A female, later identified as 22-year-old Charleen Figueroa, was located in the driver’s seat of a car unresponsive. Figueroa had been shot and succumbed to her injuries on the scene.
Another individual, 32-year-old Chad Alexander, was shot outside a home and transported to Baystate. Alexander succumbed to his injuries on December 11th, 2021.
Springfield Police Homicide Detectives began investigating. On July 21st, 2022 Detectives applied for and were granted a warrant for Oquendo’s arrest for the fatal shooting of Figueroa.
Oquendo is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Springfield District Court. His booking photo will be available until after his arraignment.
This is an ongoing investigation by the Springfield Police Homicide Unit assisted by the Hampden District Attorney’s Murder Unit.
