SPD FIU Detectives Seize Three Illegal Firearms, Including an AR-15

Springfield, Mass. — On Friday April 19th at approximately 6:30 p.m. members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) under the direction of Sergeant David Robillard, made four arrests and seized three illegal firearms including an AR-15.

Earlier in the afternoon, FIU Detectives were conducting surveillance on the 100 block of Island Pond Road. Detectives observed a known 17-year-old juvenile who had a suspended license drive away. Later, Detectives saw the same 17-year-old enter a vehicle as a passenger. Detectives conducted a traffic stop on the 100 block of King Street and placed the 17-year-old under arrest for driving a stolen vehicle with a suspended license. The driver was released.

After the arrest in an area where several individuals knew the suspect, three subjects arrived at the home on Island Pond Road. A female, later identified as Alize Marcano, went inside the home and then left shortly after with a large duffel bag. The bag was placed into the car’s trunk. Assisting Detectives then conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Alderman and Pomona Streets.

The driver was identified as Marilee Nunez, the front passenger was identified as Cristian Vazquez and Marcano was in the back seat. A fourth passenger was initially detained then released. Detectives searched the duffel bag and located an AR-15 rifle with a 30-round magazine, a second illegal firearm with a 50 round drum magazine. A third illegal firearm was located under the seat where Vazquez was sitting.

Detectives placed Nunez, Vazquez and Marcano under arrest.

21-year-old Cristian Vazquez of Springfield is charged with:
