SPD Officers Seize Illegal Firearm after Crash and Shooting
Springfield, Mass. — On Monday May 6th at approximately 12:05 a.m., Springfield Police Officers arrested 32-year-old Willie Dejesus in connection with a shooting and a crash on the 200 block of Longhill Street.
Around 10:50 p.m. on Sunday May 5th officers responded to the 200 block of Longhill Street for a report of a crash and gunshots. Then officers received information that a subject broke into a home.
Officers arrived and saw the car involved in a crash on the front lawn of a home and heard yelling. Officers located a subject, later identified as Willie Dejesus, on the 2nd floor of a home. Dejesus broke a window and tossed a firearm out of the window. Dejesus then was located in the backyard of the home. He admitted the car belonged to him.
Officers cleared the home and located the resident and informed her the suspect who broke in was under arrest.
Dejesus stated he was being followed by a car and fired his gun at those individuals. Officers located four shell casings inside in or near the crashed car.
32-year-old Willie Dejesus of Springfield is charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Discharging a Firearm within 500 feet of a Building
- Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
- Trespassing with a Firearm
- Deface Property
- Breaking and Entering for a Misdemeanor
