SPD Officers Seize Machine Gun, Marijuana after Traffic Stop

Springfield, Mass. — On Friday April 19th at approximately 8:15 p.m., Springfield Police Officers seized a loaded machine gun and arrested two suspects on the 0-100 block of Adams Street after a traffic stop.

A few minutes earlier, an officer observed a driver, later identified as Randy Perez-Coiscou, run a stop sign at the intersection of Adams Street and Dwight Street Extension.  The officer conducted a traffic stop on Adams Street.  Perez-Coiscou did not immediately stop.  When he did, the officer approached the car and saw that there was a female passenger, later identified as Maryah Melendez.  The officer could immediately smell marijuana from inside the car and could see more than the legal amount of marijuana inside as well.

Assisting officers arrived and both Perez-Coiscou and Melendez were detained pending an investigation.  Inside the car, Officers recovered marijuana and THC Cartridges as well as an illegal firearm.

The firearm was loaded with nine rounds of ammunition and had a sear-selector or Glock switch attached making the firearm a fully automatic machine gun.  Officers placed Perez-Coiscou and Melendez under arrest.

21-year-old Randy Perez-Coiscou of Springfield is charged with:

  • Possession of a Loaded Machine Gun
  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class D Drug (Two Counts)
  • Failure To Stop
  • Window Obstruction

19-year-old Maryah Melendez of Springfield is charged with:

  • Possession of a Loaded Machine Gun
  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class D Drug (Two Counts)
