SPD Officers Seize Large-Capacity Firearm after Responding to a Gun Call

Springfield, Mass. — On Friday April 19th at approximately 2:30 p.m. officers seized a loaded firearm and arrested 31-year-old Edwin Torres Jr. inside an apartment on the 0-100 block of Harrison Avenue.

About fifteen minutes earlier Springfield Police Officers responded to the above address for a gun call involving a suspect, later identified as Torres Jr.  Torres Jr. allegedly had a firearm in his waistband and there was a disturbance inside the apartment he entered.  Officers located the apartment that Torres Jr. went inside and were allowed in.  Officers observed Torres Jr. holding a firearm in a bedroom.  Officers were able to remove the firearm from his hand, secure it and place Torres Jr. under arrest.

The firearm was loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition and the serial number had been defaced.

31-year-old Edwin Torres Jr. of Springfield is charged with:

  • Possession of a Firearm without an FID Card
  • Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
  • Receiving a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number
  • Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
