SPD Firearms Investigation Unit Seized Loaded High Capacity Firearm on Saturday

Springfield, Mass. — On Saturday November 27th at approximately 6:35 p.m. members of the Springfield Police Department’s Firearms Investigation Unit under the direction of Lt. Brian Beliveau seized a loaded high capacity firearm and arrested 20 year old Jesus Oquendo at the intersection of East Alvord and Daviston Streets.

On Saturday afternoon Detectives received information that an individual, later identified as Jesus Oquendo, was in possession of a firearm inside a car in the Forest Park neighborhood.  Officers located the car on West Alvord Street.  Shortly after two individuals, including Oquendo, got into the car and drove away.   Detectives surveilled the vehicle and when assisting officers arrived Detectives conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Daviston and East Alvord Streets.  The driver and Oquendo were detained and Detectives located a loaded high capacity firearm in Oquendo’s jacket pocket.  The firearm was loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition.  The driver had a small amount cocaine and oxycodone in his possession and will be issued a criminal complaint.

20 year old Jesus Oquendo of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Large Capacity Firearm without a License
