Scam Warning: Rise in Identify Theft Related to Unemployment Scams
Springfield, Mass. — The Springfield Police Detective Bureau is warning our residents about a series of incidents involving identity fraud related to unemployment scams.
Identity thieves are filing unemployment claims using other individuals’ identities including their name, social security number, date of birth and home address.
The victims’ employers or the Department of Unemployment Assistance have been contacting the victims to inform them of a claim being processed.
If this happens to you make sure to file a report with your local police department so that they can investigate and notify the proper agencies involved.
