Shooting Suspect Charged after Springfield Police Detective Bureau Investigation

Springfield, Mass. — A Springfield Police Detective Bureau investigation under the direction of Captain Trent Duda has led to charges in connection with a shooting on January 30th that left a victim with serious injuries.

On January 30th at approximately 8:05 p.m., Springfield Police Officers responded to the intersection of State and Hancock Streets for a report of a man down.  Officers located an adult male with a severe head wound.  The victim was transported to Baystate with serious injuries.

During surgery Doctors observed what appeared to be a gunshot wound which caused the injury.

Springfield Police Detectives began investigating and on April 3rd were able to identify Holguin as a possible suspect.  On April 3rd Holguin was positively identified as the shooter.  Detectives applied for and were granted a warrant for his arrest.

Earlier in the day Holguin was arrested and charged with murder in an unrelated shooting in West Springfield.  The Hampden District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting both cases.

37-year-old Roman Holguin of Springfield is charged with:

  • Arrest Warrant
    – Firearm-Armed Assault to Murder
    – Carrying a Firearm without a License
    – Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
    – Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
