Springfield Police C3 Metro Unit Seizes Illegal Firearm, Shotgun

Springfield, Mass. — On Monday April 1st at approximately 8:50 p.m. members of the Springfield Police Metro Unit under the direction of Sergeant Elizer Vasquez, C3 Mason Square Unit and Squad C Officers seized a loaded illegal firearm, a shotgun, drugs and cash after a traffic stop on Marble Street.

Members of the Metro Unit working with officers were proactively patrolling in the area of Marble Street due to recent gun violence and drug dealing in the area.  Around 8:40 p.m. an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle.  The driver, later identified as Luis Martinez, refused to stop but due to assisting officers in the area had no way to escape and stopped.  Martinez then began reaching behind the driver’s seat and eventually jumped into the back seat.  Officers exited Martinez and the two passengers in the car, identified as Anthony Roman and Lucas Ventura-Santana.

Officers then immediately saw a shotgun on the floor behind the driver’s seat.  This shotgun was unloaded.  During a search of the car officers also located a loaded illegal firearm inside, oxycodone and more than $600 in cash.  All three occupants were placed under arrest.

28-year-old Luis Martinez of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying an Unloaded Shotgun on a Public Way
  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony (Two Counts)
  • Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug – Subsequent Offense
  • Operation of a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
  • Failure to Submit
  • Excessive Tint
  • Failure to Display Both Plates

43-year-old Anthony Roman of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License – 2nd Offense
  • Carrying a Firearm without a License – 2nd Offense
  • Carrying an Unloaded Shotgun on a Public Way
  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony (Two Counts)
  • Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug

21-year-old Lucas Ventura-Santana of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying an Unloaded Shotgun on a Public Way
  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony (Two Counts)
  • Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
