SPD Homicide Unit Investigation Leads to an Arrest in a January 5th Murder

Springfield, Mass. — On January 31st at approximately 11:00 a.m. members of the Springfield Police Warrant Apprehension Unit, Firearms Investigation Unit, Massachusetts State Police VFAS, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department and U.S. Marshals Task Force under the direction of Captain Brian Keenan arrested Curtis Stevenson at a home on the 100 block of Norfolk Street on murder charges in connection to the shooting death of 37 year old Lashar Garner.

On January 5th at approximately 6:50 p.m. officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation on the 0-100 block of Hayden Ave. Officers located an adult male gunshot victim near the intersection of Cambridge & Burr Streets and a scene on Hayden Avenue. The victim, later identified as Garner, was transported to Baystate where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Springfield Police Department’s Homicide Unit under the direction of Captain Trent Duda began investigating and were able to identify Stevenson as a suspect.  Detectives applied for and were granted a warrant for his arrest on murder and other charges.

Stevenson’s booking photo will be available after he is arraigned in Springfield District Court Tuesday.
