Springfield Police Officers Recover High Capacity Firearm after Alleged Assault on Saturday Morning

Springfield, Mass. — On Saturday April 2nd at approximately 10:15 a.m. officers received information that a female victim was recently assaulted and had a gun pointed at her face on the 700 block of Worthington Street.

Officers located the suspect, later identified as Manuel Carrasquillo, and recovered approximately 15 bags of heroin.

Crime Analysts in the Real-Time Analysis Center (R-TAC) reviewed video and relayed information to officers that Carrasquillo handed a backpack to another suspect after the assault.

Officers located the second suspect, later identified as Roberto Martinez-Colon, with the backpack on the 1100 block of Worthington Street.  Officers then recovered the loaded high capacity firearm inside the backpack.

Both Martinez-Colon and Carrasquillo were placed under arrest.

46 year old Manuel Carrasquillo of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a High Capacity Firearm without a LTC
  • Carrying a Loaded High Capacity Firearm without a LTC
  • Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Improper Storage of a Firearm
  • Unlawful Transfer of a Firearm
  • Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (Handgun)
  • Assault & Battery
  • Distribution of a Class A Drug
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug

41 year old Roberto Martinez-Colon of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a High Capacity Firearm without a LTC
  • Carrying a Loaded High Capacity Firearm without a LTC
