Springfield Police Officers Respond to a Gun Call Sunday Morning; Recover Loaded Firearm and Heroin

Springfield, Mass. — On Sunday August 21st at approximately 6:05 a.m. Springfield Police Officers recovered a loaded firearm and arrested 27-year-old Timothy Ortiz on the 0-100 block of Chestnut Street.

Around 6:00 a.m. Officers were dispatched to the 0-100 block of Harrison Avenue for a gun call.  When Officers arrived, Ortiz, began to run away.   Ortiz was running with a firearm in his hand, Officers ordered him to drop the gun multiple times before he eventually tossed it over a fence.  Ortiz hopped the same fence and kept on running before Officers were able to place him under arrest on Chestnut Street.

Officers recovered the loaded firearm on the ground and 12 bags of heroin in his pocket.

27-year-old Timothy Ortiz of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
  • Possession of a Class A Drug
  • Resisting Arrest
