Hartford Murder Suspect Arrested in Springfield

AR-Style Rifle among Three Firearms Recovered

Springfield, Mass. — On Thursday May 26 at approximately 12:55 p.m. members of the Springfield Police Emergency Services Unit (ESU), Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit, Massachusetts State Police VFAS, United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force for Massachusetts and Connecticut, Hartford Police Department, Springfield Bureau ATF and Hampden County Sheriff’s Department under the direction of Springfield Police Captains Brian Keenan and Brian Beliveau arrested 43-year-old Joseph Rodriguez at aa home on the 0-100 block of Edgeland Street in Springfield on an arrest warrant for murder charges out of Hartford, Connecticut.

Springfield Police Officers working in connection with the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force from Hartford, Connecticut applied for and were granted a search warrant for a home on Edgeland Street based on information that Rodriguez was there.

At approximately 12:50 p.m. members of the Springfield Police Emergency Services Unit executed the search warrant and Rodriguez was taken into custody.  During the search a Springfield Police Officer observed an AR Style rifle in a bedroom closet.

Based on that evidence Detectives applied for and were granted an additional warrant to search for firearms.  At approximately 4:00 p.m. the search warrant was executed.  Officers recovered a loaded Ruger AR-556 rifle, a Glock .40 caliber firearm loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition, a loaded .40 caliber firearm, a large extended magazine with 22 rounds of ammunition, 155 rounds of various ammunition, fentanyl, approximately 15 grams of cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, THC shatter rocks and $6400 in cash.

Detectives also arrested 27-year-old Luis Duprey who has a previous conviction for firearms charges.

“This was an extremely dangerous violent repeat offender hiding in Springfield with an arsenal of weapons inside a home where children were present.  I want to thank our law enforcement partners in both Massachusetts and Connecticut for safely arresting this murder suspect and getting these firearms and deadly drugs off the street.  Our Firearms Investigation Unit and our local, state, regional and federal partners continue to put in the work to make our community a safer place,” said Springfield Police Superintendent Clapprood.
