SPD FIU Detectives Seize Ghost Gun, Drugs from Agawam Man
Springfield, Mass. — On Thursday September 1st around 8:30 a.m. members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, Massachusetts State Police CINRET and Agawam Police Department seized a loaded Ghost Gun, an additional loaded magazine, more than 200 bags of heroin, cocaine and crack-cocaine and arrested Jose Sandoval-Baez of Agawam on Salem Street in Springfield.
FIU Detectives were conducting an investigation when they observed a suspect, Sandoval-Baez, get into a car and drive away. Detectives were aware Sandoval-Baez did not have a license. Assisting Detectives arrived and conducted a traffic stop on the 0-100 block of Salem Street. Sandoval-Baez was placed under arrest for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Detectives recovered $378, 217 bags of heroin, approximately one gram of cocaine and more than 9 grams of crack-cocaine on him. Inside the car Detectives recovered a loaded Ghost Gun and a second loaded magazine.
Detectives then applied for and executed a search warrant for his home on the 100 block of Regency Park Drive in Agawam. During the the search Detectives recovered a gun cleaning kit and a bundle of heroin.
27-year-old Jose Sandoval-Baez of Agawam is charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm without a License
- Improper Storage of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
- Firearm Violation with 1 Prior Violent/Drug Crime
- Resisting Arrest
- Possession of Ammunition without a FID Card
- Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug – Subsequent Offense (Heroin)
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug – Subsequent Offense (Cocaine)
- Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug – Subsequent Offense (Crack-Cocaine)
