SPD Officers Seize Loaded Firearm, Heroin and Crack-Cocaine Thursday at Marion St. Apartment Building

Springfield, Mass. — On Thursday July 21st around 5:45 p.m. Springfield Police Officers were working to deter illegal drug activity at an apartment building located at 198 Marion Street.  Officers observed an individual, later identified as Alfonso Colon, in the back of the building.  When Colon saw officers he began running up to the second floor and dropped a bag.  Officers discovered 10 baggies of crack-cocaine under the bag.  Inside the bag officers recovered a loaded firearm, additional ammunition, approximately 69 bags of heroin, a knife, more than $350 in cash and walkie-talkies.  The walkie-talkies are commonly used by individuals in drug operations to alert others of the presence of police.  Colon was placed under arrest.

42-year-old Alfonso Colon of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of Ammunition without a FID Card
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class A Drug
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
  • Trespassing
