45 Years of Service

Springfield, Mass. — On Friday April 9th, Springfield Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood will retire 45 years to the day she began serving the city of Springfield as a Police Cadet.  On Wednesday Deputy Chief Rupert Daniel presented Superintendent Clapprood with a 45 years of service merit pin.

It is unclear how many former officers worked for 45 years aside from the first Springfield Chief of Police William Quilty who retired after 45 years of service in 1932.  Longtime Senior Officer Ruben Borrero retired in 2021 after 44 years of service.  While it is possible, it is highly unlikely that anyone will ever serve 45 years ever again.
