SPD FIU Detectives Seize Firearm, Make Two Arrests Thursday Night
Springfield, Mass. — On Thursday February 24th at approximately 10:45 p.m. members of the Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) under the direction of Lt. Brian Beliveau seized a loaded firearm and made two arrests in the rear of 130 Pearl Street on the Worthington Street side.
Detectives received information Friday that Ricardo Cruz was currently in possession of a firearm. Detectives located Cruz walking with a group of individuals on the 800 block of Worthington Street. Detectives detained the four individuals as the group approached the rear parking lot of Springfield Police Headquarters.
Detectives seized a firearm from the pants pocket of Cruz along with a high capacity magazine and ammunition. Two of the individuals in the group were released. A third, a juvenile, was placed into custody for two outstanding warrants.
18 year old Ricardo Cruz Jr. of Springfield is charged with:
- Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
- Carrying a Firearm without a License
- Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number
