Springfield Police Officers Seize Firearm, make Arrest after Hearing Gun Shots 

Springfield, Mass. — On Saturday December 3rd at approximately 2:10 a.m. Springfield Police Officers seized a loaded large capacity firearm and arrest Jose Cedeno on the 1800 block of East Columbus Avenue.

Around 1:45 a.m. officers were monitoring the bar and night club areas on and around lower Worthington Street.  Shortly after officers could hear gun shots and observed an active disturbance with approximately three dozen people, including two individuals shooting firearms into the air.  One of the suspects saw officers, got into a car and was able to get away.  The other suspect, later identifed as Cedeno, got into a car but was quickly order back out by officers and he was detained.

Officers recovered a loaded large capacity firearm from his pants pocket and he was placed under arrest.

Cedeno has a prior conviction on firearms charges including discharging a firearm.

27-year-old Jose Cedeno of Springfield is charged with:

  • Firearm Violation with 1 Prior Violent/Drug Crime
  • Carrying a Loaded Large Capacity Firearm on a Public Way
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License – 2nd Offense
  • Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Receiving a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number
