Semi-Automatic Firearm Seized after Traffic Stop

Springfield, Mass. — On Sunday February 13th at approximately 2:35 a.m. Springfield Police Officers seized a loaded semi-automatic firearm and arrested 31 year old Christian Santiago on the 600 block of Sumner Avenue.

Prior to the arrest Officers observed a car turn onto Sumner Avenue without stopping at the stop sign on Pomona Street.  The driver, later identified as Santiago, pulled into the parking lot of a convenience store on the 600 block of Sumner Avenue.  The car’s registration was revoked due to a lack of insurance and the driver had a suspended license.  Officers approached Santiago who was outside of the car and he produced his suspended license.  Officers then felt a firearm in his jacket pocket.  Officers recovered a semi-automatic loaded firearm and placed Santiago under arrest.

31 year old Christian Santiago of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
  • Uninsured Motor Vehicle
  • Number Plate Violation
  • Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle
