SPD Detective Bureau Investigation Leads to Arrest of Repeat Bank Robbery Suspect

Springfield, Mass. — An investigation by Springfield Police Detectives under the direction of Captain Trent Duda led to the arrest of a suspect in connection with two bank robberies in the past week.

On Saturday February 19th at approximately 9:25 a.m. Springfield Police Officers responded to the 1400 block of Main Street for a report of a robbery at the TD Bank.  A suspect, later identified as Luik Vazquez, passed a note to a teller demanding money and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.  Detectives were able to identify the suspect and requested an arrest warrant on Sunday February 20th.

On Tuesday February 22nd at approximately 9:10 a.m. Springfield Police Officers responded to the 900 block of Main Street for a report of an armed robbery at Citizens Bank.  The suspect implied that he had a firearm and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.  R-TAC crime analysts utilizing city cameras and a track by K9 Alcatraz led officers to the 0-100 block of School Street where the suspect entered the building.  Officers then located Vazquez and placed him under arrest for the outstanding warrant from Saturday’s unarmed robbery at the TD Bank.

Detectives continued the investigation into the robbery at Citizens Bank and were able to positively identify Vazquez as the suspect.  On Wednesday February 23rd Detectives applied for an additional warrant for Vazquez including the additional charges from Tuesday’s incident.

41 year old Luik Vazquez of Springfield is charged with:
