SPD K9’s Alert Officers to Suspect, Firearm after Pursuit

Springfield, Mass. — At approximately 7:00 p.m. Monday December 27th officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the area Samuel Golden Park near the intersection of Wilbraham Avenue and Beverly Street.  There were about 40 people gathered in the park.  As officers arrived they heard approximately 20 additional rounds being fired and observed a car speed off.  No one was struck.

Officers pursued the car until it stopped at the intersection of Balis and Isabel Streets.   An individual, later identified as Jacoby Baymon, ran out of the passenger side door of the car.  Officers and K9 Units searched the area.  K9 Flexx alerted officers of an individual (Baymon) hiding in the backyard of a home on Balis Street.  K9 Yogi alerted officers of a freshly placed firearm nearby.  Officers placed Baymon under arrest.  The firearm was a high capacity loaded firearm capable of holding 18 rounds of ammunition.

21 year old Jacoby Baymon of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
  • Possession of a High Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device
