SPD Officers Seize Illegal Firearm After Suspects Allegedly Broke into Apartment Building

Springfield, Mass. — On Sunday March 24th at approximately 3:30 a.m., Springfield Police Officers seized a loaded firearm and arrested two suspects on the 0-100 block of Federal Street after responding to a gun call.

Around 2:55 a.m. officers were informed two subjects were kicking down the front door to a building on Federal Street and yelling “we are going to shoot.”

Officers arrived and observed the glass security door shattered.  Officers entered the building and located two suspects, later identified as Elizabeth Acevedo and Isaac Felix, on the 4th floor landing.  Officers detained Acevedo pending an investigation, while Felix attempted to run away.  Felix was able to get out of the building and began running on Federal Street when officers saw him drop a firearm before turning onto Summit Street.  Officers eventually caught up to Felix on the 400 block of Taylor Street.

The recovered firearm was loaded, and officers also located ammunition on the 4th floor landing.  Officers placed Felix and Acevedo under arrest.

20-year-old Isaac Felix of Holyoke is charged with:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Possession of a Large-Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
  • Breaking and Entering Nighttime for a Felony

25-year-old Elizabeth Acevedo of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Possession of a Large-Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
  • Breaking and Entering Nighttime for a Felony
