Traffic Stop Leads to Seizure of Large Capacity Firearm

Springfield, Mass. — At approximately 9:45 p.m. Tuesday March 12th, Springfield Police Officers seized a loaded large-capacity firearm and arrested 28-year-old Garrett Tyndal after a traffic stop.

About ten minutes earlier an officer observed a vehicle on Boston Road that had its registration revoked for not having the car insured.  The officer then conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Boston Road and Heath Street.  There were three occupants inside the car.  Assisting officers arrived and during a search of the car recovered a firearm and more than the legal amount of marijuana to possess.  The firearm was loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition.  The driver, identified as Garrett Tyndal, was placed under arrest.  The passengers were released.

28-year-old Garrett Tyndal of Springfield is charged with:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License
  • Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
  • Possession of a Class D Drug
  • Uninsured Motor Vehicle
  • Unregistered Motor Vehicle
